I was born in 1966, and grew up right here in Norfolk in a parish on the edge of the city of Norwich, in the UK. At an early age I was always off climbing trees and getting up to mischief, but those were the good old days before all this health and safety nonsense ruined life. In those days, if I fell out of a tree and hurt myself I learnt to be a better climber. But today such a misshap would result in the owner of the tree being sued, and the nanny state charging my parents with child abuse or neglect.
After school I went off to join the army (my local regiment, The Royal Anglian Regiment), and spent the eighties playing soldier. After leaving the army I kept involved by joining the Territorial Army which I finally gave up in 2002.
For all my soldiering I always had a strong sense of patriotic duty towards my country, so imagine my horror when our so called government decided that freedom of choice was no longer a right, and was outlawed. This is not the country I served to protect, but rather the very thing I was protecting it from.
Thanks to the internet I was not completely alone, but my ability to contribute seemed impossible. Then in a moment of boredom (not having much of a social life anymore) I put on a Nazi uniform and tried to make a short video portaying ASH for the lying bigots that they are. This first attempt was too long so I reshot it as three shorter films (Anti Smoking League, politics/ Anti Smoking League, charity/ Anti Smoking League, questions). These I uploaded onto youtube along with "Anti Smoking League, economy" and was surprised to discover people actually liked them. And so at last I had something I could do to help the fight, and HairyChestnuts was born.
